Profile
My name is Christophe Ramakers although most people tend to call me Chris. I’m not exactly sure why, but I guess its just a breath saver for most of them. I even think most of them don’t even know my full name. I’m born on a hot summer night in july 1981 in Leut, Belgium. I spent most of my youth in a town called Maasmechelen where most of my friends still live now.
My interest for computers started at a fairly young age. After my father got our first PC for some administrative work for the tennis club he was secretary. When I first got a dial up modem for the PC I got caught by the internet. I was immediately in love with the medium, the immense size and possibilities of the internet caught my interest and there is where my carreer as webdesigner started, as a little 12 year old boy in a small town in Belgium with his own website hosted on Tripod. At age 14 I went to a boarding school in Hamont-Achel. I finished high school at the Salvator-College there and went on to study Computer animation in Genk. I never finished the course there for various reasons (mainly the lack of enthusiasm of the teachers and the quality of the tools we had to work with) and went on studying applied computer sciences at the PHL in Hasselt.
After trying college for some years I got a joboffer at Verticaldot, a small firm specialized in commercial portals for cities and towns. I quickly became the person in charge of building all the websites and developing the systems running the various websites. In my 3 years of employment there I learnt alot about PHP, MySQL, Flash and javascript, things I still use today on a more advanced level. Recently I’ve made the move to standards compliant websites and decided to give accessibility a prominent place in any future web projects I’m developing.
I’m currently employed at Inventis as Lead Webdeveloper but available on freelance basis. You can always contact me for job offers.
